Shippi is a traditional Japanese art dating back to the Nara period (710-784). It involves molding leather into the desired shape and then coating it numerous times with Japanese cashew. Kyoto-based artist Yasushi Kimura is one of the few remaining practitioners of this rare art form. You are sure to enjoy the masterfully crafted leather design and lacquered shine of this truly unique Kyoto item.
